Timex Men’s T47902 Expedition Easy-Set Bezel Alarm Brown Leather Strap Watch
In a world that has become insanely complicated to navigate, this watch may come as a relief. Why? This watch is simple! If you need an alarm, this is the simplest design I’m aware of. First, it’s analog so it’s visual, even pictoral compared to the ‘soulless’ digital watches. It requires a sort of right-brain visual ability that ‘digitals’ don’t. You can just read off a digital time like a brainless zombie. Analogs you actually have to “read.”
Anyway, setting this Timex’s timer is analog, too, which is unusual. Most analog watches that have alarms simply have a digital watch built inside the analog face. So they ruin the whole analog, right-brain thingy I’m wanting to experience.
To set this timepiece, you crank that bezel around until the black arrow is on the minutes away from the current minute hand that you want. The one in the picture has the black arrow on ’12′ which is about ’30′ minute away. If you need an alarm more than ’60′ minutes away, simply keep turning until the red arrow is on the hour you want and the black arrow is on the minutes you want. Once the arrows are in place pull the bottom stem out–position one for minutes, position two for hours. The only disadvantages I see are that you can’t set the alarm in the dark without a flashlight or something, and you can’t set the alarm for more that twelve hours. When the alarm sounds, the face flashes. The volume is moderately loud. Nothing to wake you up in a deep sleep though. The look is ‘woodsy.’ Kind of appropriate for a forest ranger/hiker look. Could pass for a sort of Eddie Bauer look, but not so yuppy…it’s just a Timex!
Well, despite it’s humble origin, this timepiece is immensely practical and precise for the price! Most of the luxury watches oddly do not have back-lighting. They do not emphasize features! Even very practical features like lighting. This Timex is comfortable even for my small wrists. There’s plenty of space for big ol’ boys with naturally bigger wrists. It’s not as rugged at a G-Shock, but then again I’m not always doing maximum impact activities. So in my case, and I think for most of you, it is plenty tough. The leather band may be an issue for some of you with sensitive skin. My advice on leather bands is, “Clean them!” Also, don’t plan on scuba diving in this one. It states water resistant for 50 meters (165 feet), but I wouldn’t plan on using it that way.
This watch also has a date function, but no day of the week or month. No stopwatch included, but I turn the bezel to the current time when I want to start ‘timing’ something. It’s easy as well. This is a unique watch to add to a collection or as your only watch. Some guys swear by these watches and buy a few extra just in case that fateful day comes when Timex decides to stop carrying the T47902!
