Armitron Automatic Skeleton Watch 20-4453TT TY2807SV

armitron_front1For those who don’t know, I am an amateur watch connoisseur.  Normally, I own or am interested in average mid-range watches such as Seiko, Citizen, Invicta and the like.  Haven’t wanted to shell out the dough for an Omega, Rolex, Jaeger-LeCoultre Gyrotourbillon or a Patek Philippe…if I could.  Still, I’m not much into cheap, uninteresting watches either.

This time, however, I decided to check out a brand I never look at–An Armitron automatic skeleton watch made in China.  Others have posted on various models of the latest skeleton Armitron watches with this movement, so the only reason I’m posting this is that no one has commented on my model.  You can’t find it on any Internet searches, Armitron’s site or on Amazon.  So, here are the specs:

  • +Model: 20/4453TT
    +Movement: TY2807SV
    +40-hour power reserve
    +21 jewel automatic skeleton movement
    +Water resistant to 165 feet
    +Solid stainless steel
    +Scratch resistant mineral crystal
+Exhibition back (shows decorated rotor & ‘blued’ screws)

This watch keeps decent time so far.  It also hand winds, something I really appreciate after owning a “Seiko 5.”

Forgot to mention, I have a habit of selling or returning watches too.  Buyer’s guilt?  On a limited budget, I must be choosy on which I decide to keep.  Will I keep this one?  Not sure yet.  It sure is interesting to look at when bored waiting in line at the store or during meetings, and it’s a lot less expensive than say an Accutron skeleton automatic.

Sometime later, I’ll post about the:
+Seiko SNA225 chronograph alarm (great analog chronograph with alarm and moving bezel)
+”Seiko 5″ SNXS73 automatic (nice small-sized automatic)
+Casio Databank DB36-1AV (cheap, but has a nice loud alarm)

Armitron Automatic Skeleton Watch Back (Model 20-4453TT Movement TY2807SV)

If you own this watch, take a moment to rate it!

  1. This is actually a good watch from my experience. Apparently most automatic kinetic watches nowadays are made in China. Quality wise, it’s alright since I have a LuckyBrand TY2807SV watch which has the same movement. Kenneth Cole also has the same movement with their automatic kinetic watch (china) and the results are just about the same.

So far, this has been a solid watch although every once in a while you’ll have to manually wind it (at position 1 or the normal running mode) at least 6 or seven times to retain kinetic energy. If you’re on the computer all day, this is not the watch to wear since you really don’t do a lot of hand motions (like swinging your arms, etc.). But it’s a great watch movement, considering it’s made in China.

  2. i have a black and white armitron watch to buddy and i like yours yours is almost better then mines although why it says china on it is beyond me so you have a nice watch i wanaa be a watch maker when i leave high school so nice watch see ya

  3. Chris,
Since you are the owner of a Lucky Brand TY2807SV watch, could you please tell me what is approximately the price of one?

    1. Dear Pine,Pal Norbert, and Steve
Im only 18 years old but when i saw a Lucky Brand AutoMatic watch on sale i had to have it! I got mines today TJ MAX in LA. If there’s ever a time in not joking about something, its now. My mother bought me the Lucky Brand TY2807SV watch for 36.58. No lie. I looked at the price tag inside the watch and it read “175.00” for the original price. I was stunned but happy because my mom and me spot a bargain!
Its my firs Automatic watch and im in love with it! 🙂

    2. Does anyone know where to order a replacement band for the Lucky Brand TY2807SV? I was given one as a gift andhave shown multiple jewelers who have only been able to reply with ‘good luck’.

      Thanks!

  4. I am a jeweler and just recently worked on one of these. The stem and crown fell out. This is a known problem in this model of watch but not all.. from what I’ve heard on other reviews. The problem lies in the detent hold-down spring (been known to come loose) lifting the pin that holds stem assy and crown. It’s an easy fix if you are skilled by lightly re-bending the detent spring downward to bridge plate to achieve the right pressure however, nothing that about $40 worth of tuning from a credible jeweler to make it a great worry free watch. Others say this model runs a little fast. never slow

Some precision oil in this model couldn’t hurt anything either….this one was bone dry when I got into it, including the mainspring- Might explain them running fast

  5. I think so this also at Walmart Store look at jewelry display this like no battery in automatic watch they have may very Prices at walmart $75-$150 this watch not for sport & Hard work Maybe Be carefully not hit watch damage, I would Like this Skeleton Automatic Watch this Glow face Minute Hour Hand dose see in dark don’t ned wind this on back Watch has Rotor keep wind spring watch long, it so fun My Watch is sold from Walmart is awesome like Watch.

  6. I have owned this armitron TY2807SV for about a year now I am an engineer and love to see whats going on. I have worn a casio G-Shock for many years so I use this one as my going out watch it keeps great time the only thing I miss on it would be the date but for the most part it was a very good price (75.00 US$) it was on rollback at walmart last october so keep your eyes open it’s that time of year to get it

  7. I actually know very little about watches but I have this model and can say that mine is slow. I’m pretty active and I thought motion could keep this thing powered but I was wrong. I have been winding it for about 10 minutes now because i looked down and once again it was around 15 minutes off. If someone could please maybe post a solution to this problem and keep in mind I really do no next to nothing about watches.

    1. Hi Adam,
Sorry to hear about the watch trouble. If it were me, I’d return the watch. If you want to chance it by getting another one, you might be lucky and find it works fine. If you really like that style, you may wish to choose a higher quality/brand of watch. Something to consider is that mechanical watches generally require servicing after so many years to ensure a long life. The maintenance often costs more than what you likely spent on that watch.
Skeleton, mechanical watches are obviously more than value and accuracy, they are jewelry. A simple $20 quartz watch will be far more accurate and likely last longer. It’s really about preference.
In your case, definitely get you money back and find a working watch!
      Good luck.

  8. I bought a Amitron automatic skeleton watch for $20 off this guy. And let me tell u i get alot of compliments everyone likes it.its like the one on this page..

  9. I bought this from Walmart a few years ago (2009?), and paid ~$175. Probably too much, by today’s standard, but it may have been new then? It’s been a good watch (4/5 stars). It’s always run fast – gains about 10 min per month. But, that’s almost a feature – as I helps keep me on time! 😉 I’ve only had one problem with it – for a couple of weeks, it stopped auto-winding altogether. I had given up, and assumed the auto-winder was broken, and relegated to keeping it, but winding it manually daily (because I still like the watch that much). Then a week or two later, I noticed it was working again, and staying wound (you can see the amount of wind on the spring). I’m a IT guy (computers all day) and it always stays fully wound.

    1. Interesting. It is a nice piece to look at for the money no doubt. One of the gears on mine got stuck, which stopped it. After some movement or other it started up again.

  10. I have an automatic TY2807sv. I guess it’s armitron I’m not sure it only says automatic on the face. And it’s a skeleton watch. It was given to me at my graduation. I’m trying to find out about it and more less what the price is for one so I know what I have.

    1. Search through the posts here. The price may have been posted. It’s been a while, so I do not remember exactly, but my guess is around the $100 range. It is a product of China.

  11. Without milk it’s even lighter, and ideal for a hot summer’s day.

Herbal teas are made from roots, bark, flowers or seeds.
At home, I stared at the leaves as I tried to decide how to brew them.

  12. i own an armitron watch with the TY2870SV movement and it has stopped working about 2 hrs ago. (while wearing it). I have owned it aprox 2 years. and has been a lovely watch. paid about $140 for it.
the spring is completely wound, but will not keep running, unless i apply a little clockwise pressure on the winding knob. when i let go of the knob, the second hand first stops, then a few seconds later the motor stops. shaking the unit can make the motor run a bit, but the second hand will not move unless i apply a slight bit of clockwise pressure on the knob. anyone know why please help me.

  13. Armitron has just re-issued this watch. I had been wanting one of these for quite awhile, so when the company notified me “pre-orders” were being accepted, I sent off for one today. It will ship before July 1, 2021.
